Bye Bye January!

1 Month down, 12 to go.
No, I'm not actually counting down the months, I'm just amazed at how quickly time has passed again.
It doesn't feel like a month ago that I was welcoming in the new year.

But here is my first end of month review, something that I will hopefully be doing each month. It's basically a review of that month and setting up for the coming month.

1/ Write "2013" whenever writing the date.
That was my January goal. Did I manage it? For the most part, yes! I was surprised how little I actually wrote "2012". I normally have such an issue with remembering the change in date for the first month. That said, I did slip up a little at times.

2/ January College Work
At some point I'll show you all of my 2012 college makeup work too, but on these posts it will focus on that month's work. This month: Ageing, Editorial Fashion, and Avant Guarde.
Question: Would you guess that the "old man" is actually a 20 year old? Sidenote: I was a little disappointed with how badly the prosthetic nose blended into the skin, even with latex, but as my teacher said, you cannot expect a perfect finish with shop bought pieces.

3/ Band of the Month
This month's band I have loved for a while, and got their album for Christmas. That band is: Imagine Dragons. They are brilliant, and I'm happy to say that I am getting to see them in April! Hurray! Also, their fans are called "Dragons" which is pretty awesome. Needless to say, I am a definite dragon!

Hopefully the picture will link to some of their music on youtube. That's if I've figured it out right. If not, then go search them! They really are good!

4/ Film of the Month
Well I haven't really seen any new films this month, so I'm going to go with one that welcomed in my new year by being shown on tv on New Years Day. And that film is: UP.
I don't think anyone can dislike that film. It's so funny and cute and really heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. If any of you haven't seen it then where on earth have you been living!? Go watch it! Now!

5/ Event of the Month
Winter = Panto season, and I was lucky enough to be asked to do the makeup for some of my local theatre's panto characters. Our panto was Aladdin. Unexpectedly, it never got boring, even after watching it over 10 times. The makeup never got boring either. Right now I feel at a loss because it's all over and I miss being with and working with everyone. But I'm sure we'll all get the chance to chill together sometime elsewhere.

The Genie, Abanazar and Widow Twankey.
These makeups all changed slightly as the days went on and they became easier and I became quicker at creating them. I do believe these were from the final dress rehearsal or something along those lines, so things did get tweaked between then and the actual performances.

6/ Beauty "Fad" of the Month
Colourful Eyebrows. Mainly purple. I love bold colourful eyebrows. It's quirky and draws attention to you (not so good if you're as clumsy as I am). The amount of compliments I got from people because of them, from actors to makeup artists to classmates and friends, everyone seemed to love them (or were just really good at being fake-complimentary!)

Next Month's Goal: "To prepare for my acting school audition."
So on March 2nd, I have an audition to an acting school. This one in particular I have applied to the previous 2 years and failed to get in. This year I am determined to manage it!
In terms of preparation, I need to get fit (as part of the audition is a physical workshop to test fitness and agility), I need to learn and prep 2 monologues, I need to redye my hair and I need to book my train ticket.

That's All Folks!
Hope you've enjoyed my little month review. I shall do another one at the end of this month. Any and all feedback is appreciated. And I shall speak to y'all later!

Makeup Challenge #3: Capitol Colours

My blog now works on my laptop again, which is nice because now I can post properly.

So this time, we had the theme based aound The Hunger Games, and this theme is "Capitol Colours".
Such a fun theme to do because you could just go mad with it (which is what I did).
Mine became a sort of Drag-Effie look.

The Gals:

Elle from Good Morning Angel.
Charley from Glitters Like Snow.
Bekki from The Ghost Of Dragons Past (Me!).

The Looks:

Elle

Charley

Me
(Sorry, had real trouble deciding between photos today, so I put a load of them in, just shrunk them down instead.)

So that's us done for this time. Our next look is on the 4th February, and the theme is Mermaids!
If anyone else wants to join in, feel free to email me at rebecca.l.johnson26@googlemail.com.
If not, then keep an eye out for the 3 of us showcasing our art again!

Reason for my lack of posting...

Sorry for my lack of posting. My laptop doesn't seem to want googlemail or Blogger to work. So I'm posting from my kindle (which I can neither type on or figure out how to post pictures.

Also my skin has decided to self destruct. It's all dry and patchy and itchy. =[

I promise I'll be back posting properly when I get my interwebs to work again.

I'll continue reading though! =]

A New Year's Determination!

I don't know whether I have mentioned this before, but I want to be an actress. It's my goal in life. It probably always will be. There is nothing that I want more. I dream about it, I daydream about it, I go to sleep thinking about it and wake up thinking about it.
But in order to become the actress I am destined to be, I need to be healthy.
And I have never been so determined in my whole life to act, and equally I have never been so determined to do this (get healthy). I will succeed. I will be healthy.

How this came about:
Well the other day I looked at myself in the mirror and saw a striking resembelance to a baby hippo.
Sounds a lot like an overstatement, but seriously I do.
And when you start to look like a baby hippo, you've got to think about taking a step away from the direction you are headed in (full grown hippo and a lot of health issues).
How in the hell can I expect the world to let me take the stage and perform in front of people, when all I am going to be doing is setting a bad example of health (and disgusting myself in the process)?
It's not right for unhealthy to be the norm or accepted. I don't mean that you should shun the overweight, but I do mean that it shouldn't be right for people like me to be role models for the next generation.
I know that for myself, as much as anyone else, I cannot succeed in my goals the way I am right now.

The Past:
Sigh, I've always been big. Not terribly large, but wobbling around the high end of healthy, low end of overweight sort of area.
I've always been conscious of my body. I suppose it never helped that I was one of those geeky loner kids. Don't get me wrong, I had plenty of friends. Just I preferred alone time, which obviously made me a target for negative comments. Nasty, horrid words that never truly go away.
And so, many times before I've tried to lose weight. I've changed my diet, stepped up my exercise, and lost some weight. But it's always bounced back.

The Revelation:
It's only now that I think I know where I've been going wrong all this time - I've been too preoccupied with trying to get thin quickly to be patient and look at the bigger picture.
I'm not a patient person. I don't like waiting around. So everytime I think "I will do this!", I get put off after a week or two when I don't see any results.
And that's when I tend to result to desperate measures.
Do you know that when you don't eat for 3 days while still walking 4 miles each day, going to school and doing your weight training in the evenings, you tend to faint? Well I do.

The Determination:
And that's why this time I will get healthy in the right way. I will take my time and get fit not thin.
Because what I have realised is that size doesn't matter, but health does.
And if your size is affecting your health then that's a problem.

The Blogs:
So I want to mention a couple of things. There is a blog called "Bloggers Go Skinny" run by Sophia from Tattooed Tealady and Sandra from The Black Pearl Blog. They are both on their own journey to get fit and healthy with the help of other bloggers, and to inspire others on their way.
It's a really nice blog. You should check it out even if you don't feel the need to lose any weight: it'd be nice to show some support for the girls!

I suppose this is where I should mention Sandra (from The Black Pearl Blog)'s giveaway. She has been picked to be a judge on moneysupermarket.com' s "Get fit, Feel epic" competition. If you follow the link you can see how much money you could save by cutting down on junk food, cigarettes and alcohol. Interesting!

I don't know why it's taken me so long to make a post about my weight and getting healthy, as it's always been something at the front of my mind and there is such a big support network out there. I suppose I'm just a little shy and nervous on how people will respond. But it's about time that I get my arse in gear and do something about it. And how better than to tell the world "I can do this!"?

I think I could write so much more about my weight and my past and fitness, but I think I should end this here. I will keep you up to date with my progress though. And I promise that my next post will be nicer. Or at least more makeup/blog related. =]

Makeup Challenge #2: Fire and Ice

Why, hello my lovely interwebbers. Happy 2013! I have a lot planned for this blog in the next few weeks, but for now, our 2nd Bi-weekly Makeup Challenge.
The theme was "Fire and Ice".
Surprisingly, this theme was a difficult one. I'm not entirely pleased with my outcome, but the other gals' looks are definitely special.

The Girls:

Elle at Good Morning Angel.
Charley at Glitters Like Snow.
Bekki at The Ghost of Dragons Past (me!)

This should have been up yesterday, but someone (cough-Elle-cough) was late sending me her photos.

And the photos:

Charley

Elle

Me

Next time will be an interesting one. It was the reason we started this thing in the first place. The theme is "The Hunger Games - Captiol Colours".
This will be due on January 21st, so get to it girlies!
